Rafaat founded Lifescience Dynamics in 2004 following international and UK roles within the pharmaceutical industry. Rafaat is a marketing professional with more than 22 years experience within companies and as a consultant, including various marketing roles in industry as well as professional services developing and growing market research, competitive intelligence, forecasting, valuation, patent loss management, pricing and reimbursement. Prior to founding Lifescience Dynamics, Rafaat was vice president of Consulting Practice, a London based agency, where he was responsible for several international projects for top 10 pharmaceutical companies, focusing on advance qualitative and quantitative techniques. Before that he worked for Eli Lilly & Company, Pepsi-Cola and McDonald's in a management training programme. Rafaat has a truly international background. He was born in India, brought up in Oman/UAE, then gained a business degree in the USA. As well as the UK, he has worked in the USA, India, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Rafaat belongs to a large traditional close-knit Indian family with strong family ethics and values of honesty and hard work. He says: "I was told from childhood and have always believed that it's not just what you do but how you do it that's important." He has been married to Ayesha since 1991 and they have three children – a girl of 15, a boy of nine and a girl of six. His main role at Lifescience Dynamics is dedicated to our clients, ensuring we maintain the highest levels of service and meet their requirements precisely. He leverages his vast experience from all over the globe and across industries to ensure overall client satisfaction for every project the company delivers. David is based in our New York office; he is an experienced competitive intelligence professional with a well-rounded background in all phases of the intelligence cycle, from collection and synthesis to analysis, distribution and implementation strategy. With extensive experience on the consulting side of the life science industry, he has managed numerous competitive intelligence projects throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. In addition, he has worked with many pharmaceutical clients to assess and plan strategies to defend against generic threats utilising primary competitive intelligence. David acts as the primary client liaison contact for CI projects, taking a direct role in communicating intelligence collection, analysis and reporting progress. His experience drafting KITs, writing intelligence reports and developing embedded networks for CI collection are key components of delivering successful projects. In addition to competitive intelligence, David also contributes to quantitative research projects at Lifescience Dynamics. His experience in this area spans theory and research design as well as programming, analysis and direct supervision of online, CATI and face-to-face quantitative data collection. He has Bachelor degrees in economics and mathematics, and a Master's in quantitative research methods. |
Muneer Ahmad, MSc, PhD.

Dr. Muneer Ahmad, who is based in our UK office, has more than 10 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working on a range of projects. His expertise includes conducting thought-leader interviews (KOLs), moderating advisory boards, business intelligence, pipeline analysis, therapy area and disease assessments, scientific literature reviews, competitive intelligence and medical market forecasting. He has vast experience of commercial pharmaceutical databases, including Thomson Pharma (IDdB), Evaluate Pharma, TrialTrove, and Pharma Projects. Dr. Ahmad was previously a research analyst at Decision Resources Inc., where he was the lead author of reports on cardiovascular, metabolic disorder, diabetes and infectious disease areas (particularly HIV and antifungals). The reports provided in-depth commercial analysis and market insight, current and emerging therapy evaluation, competitive advantage assessment, market size estimation, as well as future forecasts, including a detailed epidemiology-driven one. He was also product adviser for DecisionBase® 2007, taking responsibility for product enhancement, management and delivery. Dr. Ahmad holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Imperial College London, where he investigated viral immune modulation by poxviruses, followed by a research fellowship at King’s College London, where he studied HIV assembly and retroviral restriction. Prior to this he was a research scholar at Oxford University (Wolfson College) and a research assistant at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), in New Delhi, India, where he mapped the Indian HIV epidemic using phylogenetic and computational analysis. He obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in biochemistry from the Aligarh Muslim University, India. Dr. Ahmad was granted the Felix Scholarship and Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS) awards for his studies at Oxford University and Imperial College London. He is fluent in English and Urdu and competent in Arabic, Russian and Hindi. |
Dr. Chris Smith, PhD

Chris is based in our New York office; he is an experienced moderator for advisory boards and a competitive intelligence professional. His expertise includes meta analysis of scientific papers and synthesis of large text based data. In addition to competitive intelligence, Chris also contributes to consulting projects at Lifescience Dynamics. His experience in this area spans biogenerics/biosimilars, primary CI gathering related to pre-launch sales force distribution and monitoring new therapy developments. He also has experience in reporting and monitoring clinical trials such as selective and pan VegF inhibitors and EGFR inhibitors, and development of delivery devices in ophthalmology – particularly retinal vein occlusion and diabetic macular edema He holds a Bachelor's degree in biology and a PhD in theoretical chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. |
Peter Thomas, B.Sc

Peter is based in our UK office and is an experienced pharmaceutical professional. He leads our epidemiological, pipe-line and secondary research and analysis. He also provides medically and scientifically-orientated consultancy and market analytics for the company's projects, which range from new product development to lifecycle management. With a degree in pharmacology, Peter has spent more than 25 years working in the biopharmaceutical industry in business development, clinical and business strategy, market research, pricing and other areas. He has held senior positions in a number of companies including Roche, Novartis, GSK, Biogen and IMS. A trained market researcher, he is fluent in English, French and German, and conducts interviews with clinical KOLs and industry decision makers.. Although he has worked in most therapy areas he has a special interest in oncology, neuroscience and antivirals. He has considerable experience in helping young biotechnological companies with their licensing and VC financing negotiations. His leisure activities include mountain walking and ornithology, and he enjoys good food accompanied by red wine! |

Ram is based in our UK office and is a senior consultant with Lifescience Dynamics. Ram has specialised in forecasting and Excel modelling alongside Rafaat and Peter for the past 15 years, and together they have delivered more than 200 global and regional forecasting projects to top 20 pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He is an expert in various forecasting algorithms – bass diffusions, and uses a wide variety of smoothing and curve-fitting techniques. He holds an MBA and a degree in Mechanical Engineering. |

Dr. Richard Bayney is an associate director, leading our consulting practice. His expertise include Portfolio, Resource, and Risk Management as well as Business, Strategic, Portfolio, and Scenario Planning services. He has 23-years experience in the Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology industry at Merck & Co., Bayer Corp. and AG, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development. In his previous position at Johnson & Johnson, Richard was Vice President, Portfolio Management & Decision Analysis. He has spent 11 years building and leading departments in Strategic Planning, Decision Analysis, and Portfolio Management, 2 years as an International Project Manager for a marketed cardiovascular drug, and 10 years in Molecular Biology research into gene expression in drug detoxification systems and in Alzheimer's Disease. He is a Faculty member at University of Pennsylvania lecturing to graduate and executive students in (a) Project Portfolio Management, (b) Overcoming Barriers to Organisational Success – Implementation of Project, Program, and Portfolio Management, and (c) Decision Modelling. Richard is a frequent speaker in 'Portfolio & Resource Management, Risk Analysis & Risk Management, and Strategic Planning in Drug Development' and is an Advisory Board Member to Cambridge Healthtech Institute. Dr. Bayney is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute and helps both R&D and IT organisations diagnose and improve their capability maturity levels in (a) Project, Programme, and Portfolio Management, (b) Program and Portfolio Management Offices, and (c) New Product Development and Stage Gate Review processes. |
